Drew’s injury
On May 7, 2007 in Baqubah, Iraq Drew was assisting a fellow unit in a Bradley recovery after it was struck by an IED. After arriving on scene they began to take contact and he moved from a building to a damaged Bradley to assist a fellow soldier who was pinned behind a neighboring vehicle. In route to the first vehicle he was shot by a sniper in the neck. He was then CASEVACed to the nearest FOB where he was then stabilized to the best of their ability and flown on for further treatment.
